About CLIC
The purpose of Climate Law in International Context (CLIC) is to tackle issues concerning climate change and environmental protection by establishing an innovative and transnational program that connects teaching, research and practice. It aims to contribute to the climate justice discourse by bridging the North-South divide and incorporating diverse perspectives, involving students as active co-creators of the project and active participants in the triangle of academia, practice and civil society.
The program is structured around four main components: i) in-person and online teaching, ii) supporting activities in research and strategic litigation, iii) knowledge transfer, and iv) partnership development. Above all, CLIC seeks to offer in-person and online training and knowledge dissemination in the areas of international climate and environmental law, human rights law, rights of nature, climate (in)justice and connected fields. It utilizes digital learning methods and collaboration platforms and seeks to foster international cooperation and networking between students, scholars as well as legal practitioners and members of civil society and empowers students to act as knowledge “multiplicators” in diverse settings, such as high schools programs or the public in general (“Public Climate Schools”).
A key feature of CLIC is the transnational “Climate Law Clinic”. The aim here is for students to support legal practitioners with acquired organizational, research, analysis and digital skills.
In September 2024, five students from each faculty met for the first in-person part of the program in Santiago de Chile participating in lectures, workshops as well as excursions and intercultural activities.
