On 12 September, the headquarters of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Beijing welcomed more than 30 students of the China-EU School of Law. Students met with Rashid Alimov, SCO Secretary-General, who explained to the future lawyers how and why the SCO was created by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan in 2001 as a Eurasian political, economic, and security organisation. “The SCO is an open international organisation”, Mr Alimov said. “It provides the whole world with an example of friendship and cooperation between people with different cultural and civilisational traditions." An discussion of future key aims followed, during which the SCO Secretary-General answered a number of questions. Subsequently, a tour of the SCO Secretariat's compound was organised for the students. The visit was organised by Prof. Alexis Vahlas from the University of Strasbourg who currently teaches the “International organisations” course.
