The Institute is organizing a weekly lecture series in law & economics as well as a summer school on law & economics. These two parts are mandatory for all graduate students and form the core of the coursework. Additonally, the graduate students can make use of a variety of methodological and topical classes at PhD level.
These include classes organized by the economics and social science faculty graduate school as well as classes organized by the graduate school of the law faculty. Furthermore, some of the courses in the Master program in economics are open for the graduate students. These classes are mostly taught in English, but some classes are still taught in German. Finally, the University is offering a general Qualification Program for Young Researchers, which includes soft skills as well as career planning issues.

Hamburg Lectures in Law & Economics
Weekly guest lectures on relevant issues will be held by renowned international scholars. The doctoral students shall be involved in the selection of the speakers and subjects.

Summer School in Law & Economics
The Summer School will take place in each year (usually June / early July) over a period of generally six weeks. The focus of the courses are relevant topics in law & economics as well as useful research methods. Each five-day lecture block is held by a renowned international scientist.
