A delegation of high-ranking Chinese judges visited Universität Hamburg’s Faculty of Law. On 2 September 2016, ten judges were informed about German legal education and the University’s cooperation with the People’s Republic. They came as a part of the Robert Bosch Stiftung’s German–Chinese Judge Exchange Program which is organised in cooperation with the German Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit ("association for international collaboration" – GIZ). The professional trip was supported by the Supreme People’s Court of the People’s Republic of China. Prof. Hinrich Julius, Chair of Legal Dialogue with Newly Industrialised Countries and Coordinator of the China-EU School of Law, held the presentation.
Established in 2011, the German-Chinese Judge Exchange Program encompasses professional trips by Chinese and German judges from select Chinese provinces and German states to the other country. With this initiative, Robert Bosch Stiftung and GIZ support the reform process within the Chinese legal system with this dialogue. The German Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection, the justice departments and higher regional courts of select German states and the people’s courts of select Chinese provinces also support the project. The China-EU School of Law, which is coordinated by Universität Hamburg’s Faculty of Law, facilitates legal dialogue between China and Europe with a jointly run law school in Beijing since 2008.
