Professor Nicolas Nord from the University of Strasbourg and Associate Professor Gustavo Cerqueira from the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne present their new book “International Sale of Goods” in Reims on 13 September 2017. In this volume, nine European and Chinese academics and practitioners examine which contracts govern Sino-European trade. The main purpose is to identify the consequences of European rules on Chinese companies and vice versa. The book launch starts at the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne, Croix-Rouge Campus, 57 Rue Pierre Taittinger in Reims at 2 p.m. Professor Cyril Nourissat from Jean Moulin University Lyon III will give an introduction to the book. Organisers expect more than 100 participants.
“Contrary to what is often assumed, it is not the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG) that governs the most significant part of Sino-European trade but other national regulations and international instruments,” says Nicolas Nord. “Today, the European Union is China’s largest trading partner and China is the EU’s second largest partner after the USA. Accordingly, international sale of goods contracts can be considered as one of the main legal tools governing Chinese-European commercial exchanges.”
The “International Sale of Goods” book provides the first comparative analysis of both systems in English. It is a result of the "International Sale of Goods" symposium at the China-EU School of Law in Beijing on 20 und 21 June 2016 and is published in the China-EU Law Series in cooperation with the publishing house Springer.
