Zheng Yongliu’s recently published translation ranked amongst “Major Academic Works”

Prof. Zheng Yongliu was the first one to translate the legal classic "The Struggle for Law" into Chinese.
Last week Chinese publishing house Commercial Press announced the selection of Prof. Zheng Yongliu’s translation of the legal classic “The Struggle for Law” for its commemorative book series “Chinese Translations of Major Academic Works”. Commercial Press was established in 1897 as the first modern publishing house in China and celebrates its 120-year anniversary in late 2017.
“The Struggle for Law” (original title “Der Kampf ums Recht”) is the most important work of the German legal scholar Rudolf von Jhering who is known as the founder of the modern sociological and historical school of law. The book was first published in 1872 after a lecture Jhering held in Vienna. Within two years, it was translated into 26 languages and received widespread attention throughout Europe and Russia. Prof. Zheng Yongliu published the first Chinese translation of the “The Struggle for Law” in January 2007 with Law Press China, and Commercial Press printed a new edition in March 2016. Legal scholars have distinguished the book as an important theoretical foundation for Chinese legal reform in the past years.
Prof. Zheng Yongliu is a Professor at the China-EU School of Law at the China University of Political Science and Law and Director of the Institute for Legal Philosophy and Interdisciplinary Research of Law since 2011.
