Lending desk
The Central Law Library is a reference library, whose media generally may only be used in the Library. You may borrow a limited number of books in accordance with Section 5 of the Regulations for the Use of the Central Law Library.
Over the weekend, students and “city readers” may borrow up to two media, and examinees may borrow up to four media. The items may be checked out at 2 pm on Friday and must be returned by 10 am on Monday.

Students with children under 12 years of age (proven through the presentation of a birth certificate and picture ID card of the student) may borrow up to four books for the maximum duration of one week. They may do so from Monday to Friday, 8 am–5 pm.
Academic staff and other user groups are subject to special lending rules (see Section 5 subsections 4–8 and Section 6 of the Regulations for the Use of the Central Law Library.
You may borrow and return books with a valid library card at the ZBR Information Desk. Please note that fees will be charged if you return media after the due date!
However, the following types of media—to name a few—are not available for borrowing:
- books and bound volumes of journals
- loose-leaf collections
- Festschriften
- media from the reference collection
- general reference works
The historic collections in the locked cabinets may generally not be borrowed and are designated as such in the Campus Catalogue. The Library reserves the right to exclude from this books in high demand or request that users return such books before the lending period expires.
