Networks and the Rule of Law: Uncovering Socio-Economic Outcomes (NET-ROL)
The Institute of Law and Economics is a partner in the EU-funded research project NET-ROL – Networks and the Rule of Law (Horizon Europe).
NET-ROL explores how political, civic, and economic networks shape governance quality, democratic resilience, and socio-economic outcomes across the EU and its candidate countries.
Moving beyond traditional institutional approaches, the project investigates how informal relationships—between citizens, elites, and institutions—can strengthen or undermine the Rule of Law. Networks can act as both guardians of democracy and as channels for corruption and state capture.
NET-ROL brings together leading universities, think tanks, and policy institutes from across Europe. With an interdisciplinary team spanning law, economics, political science, and network science, the project generates new insights and supports those working to defend the Rule of Law.
