Restrictions on Using Library
There are certain times when the workstations at the Central Law Library (ZBR) are required for use by those carrying out research and/or studying in the field of law. This is the case when term papers are being completed and during exam periods in the Faculty of Law.
During these time periods, daily library hours may be restricted for users outside the field who are not dependent upon the specialist literature housed in the Library. The ZBR is then only open to users requiring access to law literature.
Students in law degree programs, professors, research associates, members of the technical and administrative staff of University of Hamburg, and all users who can provide proof that they require access to law literature may enjoy unrestricted access to the ZBR.
If necessary, users outside the field may submit an application for exemption (PDF).
To date, these types of access restrictions have been necessary each year for a total of about 8 to 12 weeks in order to maintain regular library operations. Even with the introduction of the electronic access system, the Central Law Library may be used by all users with a valid library card for the vast majority of the year during its long opening hours.
