AI, Sustainability, and Corporate Accountability
Knowledge Exchange Fund 2025 - Institute for Law and Economics

Project Overview
The European Union is pursuing a dual transformation agenda with landmark regulatory frameworks including the AI Act and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D). These parallel obligations create critical operational challenges for organizations.
Our project addresses these challenges through structured stakeholder dialogue and international cooperation. The goal is to reduce compliance uncertainties, resolve regulatory tensions, and foster innovative regulatory practices.
Transfer & Co-Creation Approach Following the University of Hamburg's "Triple Transformation: digital, sustainable, open!" vision, this project pursues Twin Transformation through co-creation with diverse stakeholders. We employ participatory methods including scenario workshops and structured roundtables to foster knowledge exchange between regulatory authorities, industry practitioners, legal experts, and civil society organizations. This collaborative approach takes shared responsibility for sustainable development with digital technologies, aligning with UHH's mission of "innovating and cooperating for a sustainable future in a digital age." The project enhances sustainability and regulatory literacy across stakeholder groups while addressing current societal challenges in the AI and sustainability regulatory landscape.
The Hamburg edition of our AI, Sustainability, and Corporate Accountability Symposium 2026 took place on May 26, 2026, in Hamburg (see here). We are now accepting submissions for the second edition of the symposium, which will take place on September 2, 2026 in Zichron Yaakov, Israel. To submit an abstract/paper for presentation (and to register when registrations open up), please proceed to the symposium’s submission site here: submit/register.
