Joint Symposium on Legal Issues of One Belt, One Road Initiative
3. September 2019
Time: November 6, 2019, 9:30-12:00 a.m.
The purpose of the symposium is to strengthen the exchange and dialogue between Chinese and German legal scholars on the topic of China’s "One belt and one road" Initiative (hereinafter referred to as “B&R”), especially with regard to the legal questions arising therefrom.
In 2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping put forward initiatives to set up the "New Silk Road Economic Belt" and the "Marine Silk Road in the 21st Century". So far, 127 countries and 29 international organizations have signed the B&R cooperation documents. In Europe, 17 EU member states have signed the cooperation documents, including Italy and Greece, as well as Switzerland. The B&R has attracted attention worldwide. However, there are many worries and doubts. In Germany, political, business and legal communities also have different views on the B&R. The German government has not yet signed a cooperation agreement with the Chinese government. On the other hand, SIEMENS has reached an agreement with the Chinese government in order to participate in B&R projects. Moreover, a large number of materials and goods related to the B&R projects arrive in Duisburg (Germany) via the Sino-European Railway.
