On 8 January 2026, Sarah Geiger was heard as an expert witness before the Committee on Internal Affairs of the Hamburg Parliament regarding a legislative proposal aimed at introducing routine background checks by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution. In this context, she emphasised in an interview with NDR that the constitutional duty of loyalty incumbent upon civil servants does allow for criticism — albeit only within the limits set by statutory law and constitutional law.
