On Friday, 10 July 2026, students from the Faculty of Law at the University of Hamburg simulated the judicial proceedings in an authentic case before the Court of Justice of the European Union. The Court Simulation aims to give students practical insight into proceedings before the Court of Justice of the EU, strengthen their rhetorical skills, and deepen their knowledge of EU law.

The Court Simulation concerned Hungary’s action for annulment against the European Media Freedom Act, which is currently pending before the CJEU (Case C-486/24). The Simulation consisted of a written and an oral stage. During the written stage, the students prepared written submissions setting out the parties’ claims, pleas, and legal arguments, which were subsequently presented by the teams during the oral hearings.

The live simulation of the oral proceedings took place at the plenary courtroom of the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court Hamburg, which proved an outstanding setting for the Simulation.
