Who are buddies and what do they do?

Buddies are Hamburg students from all faculties who help international students get settled in Hamburg and find their way around right from the start.

They are volunteers who promote the integration of international students at Universität Hamburg.

Tasks prior to arrival

establishing initial contact with the international student (email or phone call)
arranging the first face-to-face meeting

Tasks after arrival

picking the student up from the train station / airport and accompanying him or her to the dorm room / apartment / hostel
opening a bank account
registering at the registration office
getting a library card
showing the international student around the campus and the city
helping with official formalities related to studies
taking part in Buddy Net events (in German only) together

Tasks not handled by buddies

searching for accommodation
enrollment
academic advising (in German only)
