Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can I attend courses from other faculties as well?
This is possible in principle. However, not all lectures are open to all students. For capacity reasons, some lectures from other faculties are only open to students enrolled in the respective department. The best thing to do is to go to the respective course on the first day of class and ask the instructor in person.
Does the Faculty of Law offer courses in English?
No. Unfortunately, all required courses are taught in German. However, individual guest lectures and seminars are offered in English in some semesters.
How are examinations conducted for Erasmus students?
That depends on the professor. While the examinations that Hamburg students must pass at the end of the semester are almost entirely written, Erasmus students often have the option of arranging for an oral examination with the professor.
What course certificates are required?
Universität Hamburg does not require any course certificates be earned during an Erasmus stay. The required course certificates are determined exclusively by the home university.
Are there tuition fees?
No tuition fees must be paid to the host university during a stay with the Erasmus program.
The semester contribution is not a tuition fee and must be paid by both Erasmus and non-Erasmus students (approximately €250–300 per semester). Among other things, the semester contribution covers fees for use of public transportation (buses and trains (S-Bahn and U-Bahn)).
