Departmental student representative committee

In accordance with Section 8 sentence 1 of the regulations for the departmental student representative committee (Fachschaftsrahmenordnung, FRO), all of the students in a department make up the departmental student body. For the Faculty of Law, this means all law students. In accordance with Section 6 subsection 1 FRO, these students elect a departmental student representative committee (Fachschaftsrat, FSR) at least once yearly, and this committee makes decisions concerning all affairs of the department's students in accordance with Section 5 subsection 1 FRO.

Tasks and financing

The FSR is the first point of contact for students with any problems, large or small, and questions they may have. It also serves as a point of contact for the other institutions and committees in the Faculty. These can turn to the FSR as needed in order to obtain students’ opinion on certain topics. The FSR is financed through semester fees allocated by AStA (student council).

Activities

In the last few years, the FSR has also created further opportunities to increase the quality of academic studies for Hamburg law students. For example, it offers a collection of written examinations that have received high grades in order to give students an idea of several exam requirements and help them in their own exam preparations. The FSR also maintains its own website with useful information and offers for students. And the committee organizes lectures with guest speakers on a regular basis. In addition, the FSR provides support for transfer students as well as prospective students interested in beginning a law degree program at Universität Hamburg.
