Lecture byProf. Dr. Alexander Proelß: Die regelbasierte internationale Ordnung in der Krise (The rules-based international order in crisis)
23 April 2025
The rule-based international order has been in crisis not only since the inauguration of US President Donald Trump. In the past decade, global power dynamics have changed considerably. Authoritarian regimes are questioning the existing rules and often act unilaterally, undermining trust in multilateral institutions. Commentators note a more or less creeping erosion of international law. These developments are reflected in various conflicts and geopolitical tensions that fundamentally threaten the stability of international relations and peace. In recent months, open cracks have also appeared in the walls of the “West”. The lecture will illustrate the scope of the crisis of the rules-based international order using examples and discuss which approaches and measures could be used to preserve the validity of international law and strengthen it again in the long term.
The Gesellschaft Hamburger Juristen (DJH) is very pleased that Prof. Dr. Alexander Proelß will speak on the topic:
“The rules-based international order in crisis: How current power dynamics undermine the validity of international law”.
The event will take place on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at 6:00 pm.
The venue is the plenary hall of the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court of Hamburg, Sievekingplatz 2, 20355 Hamburg.
