This Thursday, May 9, we had the pleasure to welcome Mr Arnab Naskar, founder and CEO of SICOS. Mr Naskar joined us for our LFT Lunchtime Workshop and discussed "Initial Coin Offerings and Security Token Offerings". Mr Naskar started out presenting the economic and political scenarios that gave rise to the cryptocurrencies, and focused primarily on the unplanned development of this technology, from Bitcoin to ICOs and beyond. In particular, how this innovation has furthered venture financing.
From an alternative mean of payments, cryptocurrencies have rapidly evolved into more sophisticated forms of digital assets, serving very different economic functions, namely, “utility tokens”, “payment tokens”, and “security tokens”. The discussion that followed explored the development of a secondary market for such tokens and moved to the broader concept of decentralised finance (DeFi). Mr Naskar highlighted both the limitations of the current financial infrastructure and the role and future of these new technologies for a more inclusive financial system.
