Center for Computational Law and Mathematical AI
The ‘Center for Computational Law and Mathematical AI’ (CCLMAI) is dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of computational methods in law. On the one hand, we investigate how the methods of artificial intelligence can be used to automate legal reasoning in a way that is smart, safe and sustainable. On the other hand, we address the challenges AI systems are facing when they have to reason about legal issues. The study of the automation of legal reasoning will not only provide us with the necessary basis for a reasonable regulation of artificial intelligence, but also with a better understanding of our legal reasoning. To that purpose our core team consists of both lawyers and computer scientists complemented by a diverse group of advisers from the disciplines of the law, philosophy, computer science, logic and mathematics.
The Center for Computational Law and Mathematical AI is hosted at the University of Hamburg. It is run by Prof. Matthias Armgardt and Prof. Kai Cornelius from the Faculty of Law together with Prof. Ralf Möller from the Institute for Humanities-Centered Artificial Intelligence (CHAI).
